Johannes Gutenburg
Johannes Gutenburg developed the first ever movable metal printing press. It made it possible to print many books much more quickly. His book, Gutenburg's Bible, was the first European book produced on the new press.
Ptolemy
Ptolemy was an Egyptian-born astronomer. He stated that the sun and the planets moved revolved around the Earth. Ptolemy thought that they moved around in a circular path. He was right about this point, but was wrong about the Earth being the center of the universe.
Nicolaus Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish who led the Scientific Revolution. He released a book called On the Revolutions of the Heavanly Spheres. Copernicus proved Ptolemy wrong and believed that the sun was in the center of the universe and that the planets revolved around it, and developed the sun-centered theory.
Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei is an Italian scientist made the third great breakthrough in the Scientific Revolution. He believed that new knowledge can come from carefuly carried out experiments. Galileo proved Aristotle wrong with experiments. He invented a water temperature, proved that the smaller object falls faster, and published a book with all of his theories.
Sir Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was an English mathermatician who brought together the ideas of Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo. His laws (or well tested theories) were stated in a book called Principia. Newton's ideas led to the rise of modern physics and his theories are known of Newton's Laws.
Rene Descartes
Rene Descares was a French scientific thinker. He wrote a book called Discourse which is about the problem of knowing what is true. Descartes thought that mathmatics was the source of all scientific truth, and is viewed to be the founder of modern rationalism.
Francis Bacon
Francis Bacon was an English thinker who infuenced scientific thoughts. Bacon believed that ideas based on tradition should be put aside. He invented the scientific method which is an orderly way of collecting and analyzing evidence. It had several steps to it.
